Activity Works are individualised programmes delivered by our physiotherapists at Marina Physio for people with, or at risk of developing, specific health conditions. Included conditions are those in which research has shown increased activity levels limits disease development and progression, reduces symptoms and improves life expectancy.
What the medical research says:
“There is irrefutable evidence of the effectiveness of regular physical activity in the primary and secondary prevention of many chronic diseases and premature death”
“Regular physical activity reduces the risk of many adverse health outcomes”
“Multiple trials testing different types of exercise regimes are consistent in showing that exercise alleviates pain from knee osteoarthritis.”
“For exercises and other structured activities pursued with a goal of health improvement, the group states with a high level of scientific evidence that they have a favourable effect on pain and function in the sedentary knee osteoarthritis patient”.
Types of programmes
A 6 month programme for people with (or with a family history of) specific health conditions that research has shown improve with increased activity. This programme is also suitable for people who wish to become active, but have difficulty getting started or fitting activity into their life.
We aim for you to establish an activity level that is sufficient for you to positively improve your health condition/s, and that you establish a habit of regular activity that could remain with you for life.
Your physiotherapist becomes your personal activity educator, coach and mentor assisting you to safely move from where you are now toward a healthier life.
Your programme will be individualised to suit your health status, your lifestyle, your likes and dislikes. Programmes consist of two phases. The first phase is a ‘Conditioning Phase’ during which your body will adapt to gradually increasing levels of activity. During the second, ‘Training Phase’, your physiotherapist will guide you toward increased activity intensity and duration, in order for you to attain positive changes in your health conditions.
Intensive Musculoskeletal Programme
A 3 month ‘fast-track’ gym-based programme, to reduce pain and disability in people with osteoarthritis of the knee, or people with chronic low back pain, who have no additional severe chronic health conditions.
We provide a FREE initial clinic appointment to assess your knee or low back, and discuss your suitability for the Intensive Musculoskeletal Programme.
